Obituary for Wanda Thompson

Wanda Thompson was born Wanda Lee Adams on September 19, 1934; the fourth child of Charlie and Myrtle Cope Adams of Franklin, Ohio. Wanda described childhood as her being a tomboy who loved to play outside, climb trees and spend summers on her grandma’s farm in Tennessee. She fell in love young, and married Jim Thompson at the age of 16. They enjoyed almost 68 years of marriage together. Wanda was a homemaker most of her life, showing herself to be strong, capable and tireless. Except for a short time in Greenville, South Carolina, while Jim was in the United States Air Force, Wanda made her home in Franklin, Ohio until 1989 when she and Jim decided to move to Lexington, Kentucky to enjoy the farm life with their son, Troy.

Wanda longed for adventure. She celebrated her 80th birthday by skydiving and, just last fall, in an effort to complete her bucket list, she went zip lining. She described it as one of the favorite days of her life.

Wanda’s character shined through these past months after being diagnosed with cancer. She demonstrated grace, wisdom and tried her best to make it easier for everyone around her.

Wanda is survived by her husband, James F. Thompson of Lexington, KY; her 3 children, Sheila Ulmer, (Carl) of St. Marys, GA, Troy Thompson (Jan) of Lexington, KY and Alan Thompson (Holly) of Xenia, OH; grandchildren Brian Ulmer (Kari), Travis Thompson (Cenchrea), Matthew Ulmer, Andrea LeMaster (Corey), and Stephan Thompson; sister Juanita Baker; 4 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and many friends.

She was predeceased by her parents Charlie W. and Myrtle Cope Adams; sister Mae Patterson; brothers Ronald and Bruce Adams.

A celebration of life will be held at 4:00PM on Saturday the 28th day of July at the Winchester Country Club in Winchester, Kentucky.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest that donations be made to Bluegrass Hospice Care or Bluegrass Care Navigators at 2312 Alexandria Drive, Lexington, Kentucky 40504.
